  1. In Sheffield Mass the fire department is made up of volunteers who respond from work or home 24 hours per day. The fire fighters train weekly and qualify on equipment gradually until they are ready to use that equipment on the scene of an incident. There is a command structure that includes a Chief, 2 Dep. Chiefs, a Captain, and 2 Lts.

All emergency responders in Sheffield can be accessed by calling 911.

  2. In Singapore, the police department is made up of all professional police officers who respond from work 24 hours a day. All police departments in Singapore are managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Most male police officers completed their national service under the police department. Women, who do not need to complete national service, are still able to become police officers but more basic training is required for them to be certified. The police station nearest my house is Bukit Merah West Police Post. It is located less than a mile from my house. I feel very well protected in Singapore as not only is the crime rate in Singapore very low, I trust that police officers will arrive at my house very quickly should trouble arise. The police in Singapore can be reached by dialing 999 while the fire department and paramedics can be reached by dialing 995.

  3. In Los Altos Hill, CA, we pay the Santa Clara County Sheriff's department for law enforcement. We have a direct say in the election of the sheriff, and all the policemen are professionals. All emergency responders are reached by calling 911, but my town rarely has anything that would be considered an immediate threat to people's safety.

  4. In Pickering, the police department is protected by Durham Regional Police, which have many stations throughout the Durham region, but they all operate in different cities as the Durham Regional Police. There are also OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) but they deal more with highways and waterways. They are all professionally trained, and my house is very close to Toronto as well, so those police officers are occasionally visible, but it is technically out of their jurisdiction. The firefights and paramedics are also professionally trained, typical to a big city and they are for the city, not the region.

They are reached by calling 911.

  6. The Scituate Massachusetts Police Department is the main law enforcement in the town, along with the Plymouth County and the State Police. The majority are professionally trained with a few volunteers. The same with the Scituate Fire department, there are more volunteer fire fighters but there are still professionals who are in charge of the station. The EMS are all professionals. Since there are not many resources in Scituate all the surrounding towns help each other out if they are closer or need help. All these can be reached by calling 911.

  7. In Mexico City the fire department is called Heroico Cuerpo de Bomberos, the closest station will come when you call, they are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. In the station they educate the firemen and there are also lessons for the community about what to do in case of an emergency. They will help in many different ways, they will not only help on fire incidents but also in any accidents where they need any assistance. The firemen are all volunteers. There are different telephone numbers to access the firemen, red cross, and policemen.

  8. In New York City the police department is called the New York Police Department, better known as NYPD. They are made up of professionally trained police officers, and are state policemen. The NYPD responds immediately to a 911 call, and are available 24/7. The city is swarmed with police officers because there is always something going on. Although there is always a risk of crime, the police officers assure me of my safety at all times of the day. EMT and Firefighters are also always available with a call to 911, and depending on the caliber of emergency, always show up to the crime scene together.

  13. In Milford, Connecticut the Fire Department is professionally trained and the Milford Fire Department is a “Class 1” ISO rated Fire Department which is the highest rating given. The Department consists of five active fire stations and a vehicle apparatus repair and maintenance facility. A Special Services Unit (Canteen Truck) is housed at a sixth fire station and is operated by retired members of the Department to provide fluid and food at long-term incidents.

The Milford Fire Department’s fleet consists of six Fire Trucks and the Department has two Aerials, a 100-foot Tower Ladder with a 1,500 G.P.M. Fire Pump and a 75-foot Quint (a combination Aerial and Pumper with a 1,250 G.P.M. Fire Pump). There are three reserve Fire Trucks for occasions when apparatus are being repaired or maintained. The Department also has one full time Paramedic Rescue Truck; a second Paramedic Truck is in service during periods when call volume is predicted to be high. The Department has ordered a new Rescue Truck from Medtec and a new Command Vehicle was put in service.

The Department, led by Chief Louis A. LaVecchia, is comprised of 114 fire personnel, eight dispatchers and five civilian personnel. Two Assistant Chiefs fall under the direction of the Chief and are responsible for the Operations of the Department. One Assistant Chief is the Fire Marshal directing the Fire Prevention Bureau and acting as the Departments Administrative Officer. Another Assistant Chief is the Operations Officer whose responsibilities include the day-to-day activities of the Department as well as the accommodating of all training needs, reviewing equipment inventories, purchasing and servicing of firefighting equipment, hose, and breathing apparatus.

There is a Fire Department 2 minutes down a road that leads directly to my own, and I have in fact seen it respond to a fire on the lower part of my street almost instantly, so I feel well protected by the Fireman in my area. There is a second Fire Department that is five and a half minutes from where I live that is also able to respond should there not be trucks available from the first Department.

  14. Ho Chi Minh State Police Department comprises four sectors, the Security Force, the Police Force, the Army Ordnance aka Logistics, and the Build-up Force. Within each sectors there are different offices, depending on the role of each sector. I do not know whether or not these four sectors are designed to check and balance or to support one another, but as their according sub-offices are relatively different, it should suggest the latter case. For instance, the Security Sector comprises the Immigration Administration Office, code PA 72, Office of Politics Defense (PA 67),Office of Economic Security (PA 81), while the Police Force has the General Investigation Squad, Public Safety Squad,Political Crime Squad, Drug Squad,Public Traffic Squad, and so on. All the police officers working in any of these force are state personnel well-trained with distinct skill sets. Also, Ho Chi Minh City is divided into 24 districts and suburban districts, all of whom has its own police station, headed by either a colonel or a senior lieutenant colonel. The officers working in these local stations are usually volunteers who have previously been drafted and went to the army for a minimum of two years. The State Police Department and the local police officers work together and can be reach by calling 113 24/7.

  15. "In Dominican Republic, policeman are known as "Amets" who patrol at every given moment of the day making sure everything in under control. They are usually riding motorcycles rather cars. The fire department in Dominican Republic is known as the "Cuerpo de Bomberos". It's the same in every city, and this is made up of people volunteering to join the fire department. The "Policia Nacional Dominicana" is the national police force in the Dominican Republic. Those in the Policia Nacional Dominican are different from "Amets", they have more power in a sense and ride around in cars. They're Its main function is to protect the Dominican nation and enforce the law. They reply immediately with a simple 911 call. It was formed in March 2, 1936 and has about 15,000 employees."

  17. In Sharon CT, the police department is made up of a mixture of volunteers and professionals. Although the bulk of those employed are volunteers, there are a few people whose main focus revolves around the police force. Very rarely are cop cars ever seen patrolling the town but are mostly around on the scene of accidents or big town events. Similarly the fire department is all a squad of highly trained volunteers who respond to every call from their home or the fire house. The number of case of emergency in Sharon CT is 911.
