ReplyDeleteThe Police department in Danbury, Connecticut was founded in 1889. It consists of 167 officers that are divided into the three divisions of patrol, investigative, and professional standards. Patrol is the largest division and it handles over 94% of all police activity. The investigative division consists of detectives that handle issues relating to missing persons, narcotics, vice, crime scenes, and white collar crime. The professional standards division is in control of record management, animal control, internal affairs, and recruitment/ training. All of these divisions are under the command of Police Chief Alan Baker.
ReplyDeleteThe Police force in Fairfield CT, currently consists of 108 Sworm officers, 100 Special Agents, 15 Telecommuters, 4 Animal Control officers, 7 Marina guards, and 6 part time personnel. The police department is split into three divisions, the Field Services Bureau, Support services Bureau, and the Professional standards, and Public Affairs Bureau. Captain Joshua Zabin is at the helm of the operation, and joined the force in 1986. The fairfield police station has various special force teams that handle any issues ranging from burglary, to assault. They also offer training services within the department as well for up coming officers.
ReplyDeleteGreenwich Fire Department responds to over 4,200 emergency calls per year, ranging from minor fire alarm activations to structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, and even hazardous materials incidents. Greenwich Fire department owns 14 Engines, three Ladders, and a Heavy Rescue. The Fire Department operates this equipment out of eight fire houses within Greenwich (and Banksville, New York) with the help of over 100 uniformed fire fighters, and 100 volunteers.
ReplyDeleteThe Hingham Police Department has implemented a great, responsible program called the Designated Driver Program throughout the town. This program is designed to prevent drunk driving and create a safer town in terms of safe driving. The program enlists local businesses, specifically restaurants that serve alcoholic beverages. The participating businesses must agree to give out free non-alcoholic drinks to customers who are designated drivers. This helps to ensure safe driving habits when it comes to alcohol. This program is only available to people who designate that they will drive their friends that night who have been drinking, as long as they have not had a sip of alcohol.

The Weston Police Department is located in the small town of Weston, Ct. Home to 10,000 residents, Weston is an extremely safe and homely place to live. The police respond to any number of situations, including: All medical emergencies, fire calls, public functions, fundraisers, school events, and many more. I remember specifically, when I was in 3 grade, the police department came to my school to teach the importance of wearing your seatbelt during car rides. They are all extremely personal, and make a significant positive impact on our community.

The Millburn-Short Hills Police Department is the closest law enforcement agency to my house. There are 54 sworn officers and over 40 that are unsworn. They deal with everything from working traffic details to investigating homicides. Because my town is so small, people recognize them as members of the community, not just as officers of the law. There are also 4 detectives on the squad, one of which is my friend's father. The police force also offers D.A.R.E classes for the youths of the town, in an attempt to reach out to the community.

Like many fire departments from other cities and towns, the Fairfield Fire Department responds to more than just fires. The State Department of Emergency Medical Services has named the Fairfield Fire Department the Emergency First Responder in the area. The Fairfield Fire Department is also a founding member of the Fairfield County Hazardous Materials Response Team. This is unique because many fire departments do not respond to hazardous materials incidents, no matter the emergency.
ReplyDeleteMarin County is located 15 minutes north of San Francisco, California. My hometown, Mill Valley, is a small town of only 15,000 residents. The Mill Valley Police Department began in 1906 with Constable James McDonald. He was named the first Marshall. In 1934, Alexander Steele McCurdy, was named the first Police Chief. Last year, the Mill Valley police department responded to nearly 18,000 calls for service and has continued to serve and protect the people of Mill Valley, CA.

The Radnor Township Fire Company has been in existence since 1906. I have recently learned that the Fire Company is not primarily responsible for the entire township of Radnor, while the ambulance company is. The Radnor Fire Company responded to over 3,000 calls for fire, rescue, or ambulance services in 2013 alone. Radnor operates with 73 volunteers, but still has 10 full time employees. These individuals use any of the three standard fire engines, one 100 foot ladder truck, or a rescue truck to respond to emergencies. they also have a special services trailer and three ambulances. Radnor Fire Company is home to the first ever automotive fire truck in the U.S. The truck was named "The Fireman's Herald".

The New York Police Department was established in 1845 and is the largest municipal police force in the US. The NYPD has responsibilities within law enforcement and investigations inside the five boroughs of NYC. The NYPD is one of the oldest police departments in the US. The departments roots go back to 1625 when New York was New Amsterdam, which consisted of the Dutch 8 man night watch.

The Hamilton-Wenham Police Department's mission states "The Hamilton Police Department is committed to providing effective and efficient police service to our community. We will continuously promote a safe environment through a police-citizen partnership with an emphasis on mutual trust, integrity, fairness, honesty and professionalism" (hamiltonma.gov). Hamilton is a very small town like sheffield most likely has a similar crime type. Russell Stevens is the chief of police in Hamilton.

Longmeadow, a small suburb of the city of Springfield, has a very low crime rate due to its small population and great police force. Many locals consider the LPD party-poopers. Since Longmeadow has such a low crime rate, the police have a lot of time to break up high school parties and crack down on under age drinking. In 2012 there were 0 murders, 1 rape, 1 arson, 6 robberies, 4 assaults, 5 auto thefts, 26 burglaries, and 163 thefts. In Longmeadow there are 29 full time officers for every 1,000 people with a total population of about 1,600 residents. The Longmeadow Police department is a respectable force and does a great job making citizens feel safe.

The NYPD is the oldest police force in the United States and they can trace their routes back to 1625 in New Amsterdam with 8 Dutch night watchmen. The NYPD is also the largest municipal police force employing around 35,000 sworn officers to protect the five boroughs of New York City and its over 8 million residents. The NYPD is a has many specialized units to deal with the many different types of crime that may happen in New York City like counter terrorism, K9, bomb disposal, anti-gang and narcotics just to name a few.The NYPD does a great job protecting one of the largest and most densely populated cities in the world.

The Larchmont Fire Department was founded in 1891. It is comprised of about 17 firefighters, half paid, half volunteer. With a radius of roughly 1.5 square miles, the department serves close to 7,000 residents. There are three engines, one ladder truck, one rescue, one support vehicle, and a chief’s vehicle. They receive an average of three calls per day. However, they are required to respond to all emergency calls, that is, those made to the police department as well.

There are 167 police officers in Danbury CT. There are 4 fire stations with professional firemen constantly on duty to cover the 44 acres of Danbury CT with a population of 82,807 people. There is a hospital in Danbury CT with EMT’s on duty at all time ready to react to call-ins. There is also a lake patrol for Candlewood Lake which is the largest lake in CT. The patrol is from both Danbury and Brookfield CT.

Woodstock, NY is an extremely small town where the fire department, the police department, and town hall are all adjacent to each other in the center of town. The Woodstock Fire Company was officially founded in 1906 and continued to grow to be the Woodstock Fire District that is home to 22 vehicles, 172 volunteers and emergency medical services that serve a 60 square mile area. The fire department serves a large role in the community though events such as dinners and community meetings.

The New Castle Police Department takes great pains to make sure the community is safe as their mission includes their commitment. They post articles online about their low tolerance for using phones while driving. During Tax Identity Theft Awareness Week, they posted an article on how to stay safe from identity theft. They not only protect us during hours, but take great pains to make sure that we are also safe outside of it and to prevent crime rather than solve it.
