  1. In 2009, when I was in 8th grade, the Boys high school team played at the TD Garden for the Division 2 State Championship. Unfortunately, the team with 13 seniors lost to Newburyport by a score of 4 to 2. I watched the heart breaking game in the stands, wishing I could have played. One year later, my freshman year, the Boys team made it to the State Championship again, and this time I was on the team. Again, we played Newburyport, except this time we won by a score of 4 to 2. Our team captured the schools 38- year hockey program’s first State Championship.

  2. A few years ago, I was on a hockey team that was playing in a tournament in Montreal. In the prior years that we had attended the tournament, we had not won one single game. Unfortunately, one of my teammates, the coach's son, had passed away a few months prior to the tournament. The tournament was an extremely emotional experience for every player and the coach, who had traveled with his entire family to the tournament. On the final day of the tournament, we were able to win the quarter final and semi final games. Half way through the championship game, we were trailing by two goals. In the last eight minutes of the game, we were able to score four goals, and capture the championship. The feeling of winning that tournament after everything that the team had gone through is like nothing I have ever experienced in my life.

  3. In 2004, my Pomfret youth hockey team, the blue sharks, played in the youth championship game at Pomfret School. We had similar jerseys to the professional team and got dressed in the varsity boy’s room; we all thought we were just as good as the high school team that day. The part of that day that was most significant to me was that our game was televised on a local station. Just knowing that we were on TV made the experience even more amazing. We ended up winning that game and they played “We are the Champions” on the speakers as we skated around with the trophy.

  4. My 9th grade year at Cardigan, which is a junior boarding school for 6th - 9th grade, the graduating class of 2013 played our last football game for Cardigan. At the end of half, we were down by a touchdown. In the second half of the game, as a running back, I scored two touchdowns to win the game. This was a memorable moment for me because I proved that an Asian running back who wasn't the fastest nor strongest on the team can win the game.

  5. Some of my most memorable hockey moments are from when I was 5 or six playing mite youth hockey. During my three years playing mites, I played three youth hockey state championships. Three years in a row South Burlington played Burlington in the Vermont state tournament. The first year we lost the championship by one goal to Burlington in a game we should have won. During the game I had tried to shoot a puck around our net and scored on our goal. I was so upset after scoring on my own net that I cried just about the rest of the game. The next two years we played them in the championships, we won both games and I was able to score multiple goals on their net in 7-0 and 5-2 wins.

  6. Growing up, playing sports was a huge part in my family’s life. I grew up playing soccer from a young age until i was eventually burned out, and decided to stop. I then picked up lacrosse in 5th grade and fell in love with the sport. My dad always told me to dream big and set goals for myself. So my freshman year when I was trying out for the varsity team, I was determined to make it. During my freshman year, my team at Medfield High School was the most talented it has ever been; however, it wasn’t until my sophomore year when we finally beat Winchester in the state finals. We were the first girls lacrosse team in Medfield High School's history to win and state title; therefore, making it the most memorable and rewarding sporting event so far in my life.

  7. During the summer going into my sophomore year, I truly realized how great a team can be. My team had been my family all summer long, going on 24-2 run through the hot summer months. When it came down to the last game of the last tournament, a night game at Hofstra University, it was truly memorable experience. We were down to the Baltimore Crabs 11-9 at with little time left in the 4th quarter, and we kept pushing hard and tied it up. We played right through over time and went to a 1v1 brave heart. My best friend on the team, Kyle Buser, was voted among the rest of us to go out there. After the 2 players battled, both with great opportunities, the player for the Crabs made a costly mistake. Buser capitalized and as a team stormed the field to congratulate him. This win under the lights with some of my best friends was a great sporting experience in my life.

  8. One of the most memorable moments in hockey for me was when I was in 7th grade and my travel team won states. After a very memorable year and winning sectionals, we made the trip to New York City for states. Once arriving we saw what teams we were playing and how difficult it was really going to be. After going 3-0 in the first part of the tournament and winning the cross over game, we were set to play in the finals against the one other team from northern New York, the St. Lawrence Thunder. After it being a close game we scored an empty net goal giving us a 4-2 win. We all through our sticks and gloves and skated around the ice passing the trophy to each other.

  9. My most memorable sports moment came last year in the Super 8 hockey tournament. The Super 8 is a tournament among Massachusetts' top 8 high school teams for the title of state champion. My school had made the tournament every year since it was created and we had the most state championships, 17. I was a member of the team during the only two seasons in school history that we failed to qualify for the tournament. However, last year we made it back to the tournament and were pitted against our arch rival for more than 50 years, BC High. The tournament format had been changed that year from a round robin to a best of 3 series for the first match ups. We lost the first game, then won the second in a shootout, and finally eliminated them by winning the last game 3-2. In the last game, we were down 2-1 late in the third period and won with our final goal coming with just 27 seconds left. The rink was packed and the crowd erupted when the final buzzer went off. After two disappointing seasons, making it back to the tournament and eliminating BC High meant a lot to our team and our school.

  10. One of my most memorable sports moments was during the summer going into my 9th grade year. I was in Maryland playing on my summer lacrosse team, called Revolution. We were playing the championship game in our final tournament of the year. It was tied 7-7 at the end of the 4th quarter and we were heading into overtime. As the ref blew the whistle for the face-off, I was on the sideline waiting for the LSM to come off if we won the faceoff. However, the opposition won the faceoff, and moved it into the offensive box and began passing it around, keeping it under control. Eventually they got a wide open shot just a couple feet outside the crease. Luckily, our goalie made a miraculous save, keeping us in the game. As our goalie is about to clear the ball, our LSM comes off and i sprint across the field at about half field calling for the ball. He heaves the ball all the way up to me leading to a fast break. I sprint down, but once i get pressured, i pass it off to another middie across the field, who then puts it down to our attackman on the left side of the goal. He catches it, steps towards the goal, fakes low and shoots high. As i see the ball go in, the rest of the team and myself charge the player who scored, as we won the game 8-7.

  11. One of my most memorable sports moments was at the u16 hockey national championships. My team was playing against Honeybaked from Detroit and the score was tied 4-4 with two minutes left in the game. Our team needed to win to advance to the next round. I scored and my team went to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

  12. One moment that is memorable to me was in 5th grade. I had my first experience on a non town hockey team and I quickly learned how good the competition can be. We lost to the South Shore Kings four times my first year. This team of 12 year olds had not lost a game since coming together as a team and really had no competition. They beat us bad that first year. We lost by scores of 10-0, 15-1, and other embarrassing scores. It wasn't until my second year that we would only lose to the kings three times. In our last encounter of the season we were the first team to give the Kings a loss. It didn't matter that we were 1-7 against the kings in those two years because everyone else was 0-8. This was a great moment for me and my teammates and one that I still remember to this day.

  13. Two years ago I played for a u16 hockey team, the Long Island Royals. My team traveled to Buffalo for nationals. In the semi-final game we played Chicago Mission, the number one ranked team in the nation. We fell short to the Mission a earlier in the season 2-1 at tournament they hosted in Chicago. The game ended in regulation time with a score of 2-2. We had a power play going into overtime, and my teammate scored 30 seconds in. We went on to beat the Dallas Stars for the national championship, but my most memorable sports experience was definitely beating the Chicago Mission in overtime, who were expected to win.

  14. I did not start playing competitive sports until I was in eighth grade. My main sport was tennis, and I was starting to play tournaments, and matches. I was playing in a tournament in New York. Most of the kids were better than me, but i managed to go all the way to the semifinals. Even though I lost, I was happy with how i played. This was my first tournament, and my first great sports moment for me.

  15. One of my most memorable sports moments was winning an outstanding athletic achievement award at a summer sports camp. The award recognizes the best athletes at camp playing a variety of sports they have never played before(wrestling, trampoline flips, track and field events, etc.). This award, which is not just an award that is reflecting one particular sport that every athlete in high school now focuses on, but rather an array of different activities, helps make the experience and accomplishment very unique.

  16. The most important sport-related event in my life was my last water polo game before the play-offs last year. We needed a win to go to the play-off, not a tie game, a win. We were playing a team we had already played and tied in preseason. The whole team had been working extremely hard before that game. Some of us, even practiced before going to school few times. I play as a goalie and our coach, who used to play as goalie too, put a lot of pressure on me. Before every game we used to bet: if I was able not to be scored on, he would have paid me a dinner in a restaurant I could choose. It's very hard to catch every single shot so it always ended up with my lost. That game I was focused, the whole team was. We were more determined than ever. We played great. At half time my teammates said I was like a spider. I was euphoric. The result was 12-0, 30 seconds before the end of the game. I was making it: no goals. Ten damn seconds before the final whistle, they scored on a penalty shot. We still won. We still qualified for the play-offs. I probably played the best game in my life, but I wasn't as happy as I should. I have never been able to win that bet.

  17. Back in PeeWee hockey, my team was playing in a tournament in Detroit called the Can/Am tournament. At this tournament, there were 5 teams from the USA and 5 teams from Canada, and all 5 teams from each country were working together. The 5 teams from the USA were all wearing the same American jerseys, and the Canadians were all wearing their Canadian jerseys. The country with the most combined points at the end of the tournament would win. In our last game of the tournament, my team was tied 1-1 with 8 minutes left in the overtime. At this time, USA was losing to Canada by 2 wins, and we needed to win this game if we wanted to beat Canada. I lined up for the face-off and the center won the draw back and I walked through the circle, picked up the puck and buried it top right for the game winner in the first overtime of my life. Later on, USA went to beat Canada by 2 wins. Making this the first overtime of my career, scoring the game winner for my country makes this a great sports moment for me.

  18. My most memorable sports moment was when my mite B ice hockey team won 55 out of 60 games throughout the season. We finally made it to the state championship and were lucky enough to win the Connecticut State Championship. That season was the first time that I was truly apart of the team. The team was composed of friends that I went to school with and I truly felt like I was part of a family. The very next season essentially the same team was competing for the State Championship once again. Unfortunately we lost in the final minutes and I was faced with a great disappointment in sports for the first time ever. Within two years I was felt the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
